# American Emigration Revue

> Independent research on American emigration. AER tracks how many US citizens live abroad, country by country, using figures published by host-country governments — censuses, population registers, residence-permit counts and naturalization records.

Method: every figure carries its publisher and year; modelled estimates are labelled as such. (A handful of headline figures — where no host country publishes one — are UN DESA or US State Department estimates, and are marked as estimates wherever they appear.) AER is a research publication, not a relocation service and not an immigration adviser.

Until 14 November 2026, every 2024 dataset on the dashboard is free to download without an account: the per-country CSVs above, every dataset block on each country page, and one bulk file of all countries and all metrics for 2024 at [https://americanemigration.com/api/export?year=2024](https://americanemigration.com/api/export?year=2024) (add &format=json for JSON). Same licence: CC BY 4.0 with attribution to AER and the named publisher.

Current edition: data as of AER Master Dashboard (updated 2026-06-10). Editions are re-approved periodically, so re-read this file rather than caching its contents.
