Summary:

A February 2025 survey commissioned by StorageUnits.com and conducted online by PollFish reveals that 26% of Americans are contemplating relocating to another country due to “dissatisfaction with President Trump,” though only 1% have concrete relocation plans, and a further 5% are actively exploring the prospect of relocation. Among those seriously considering a move, 13% expect to relocate within six months, 20% within the next year, and 18% within two years. The survey, which comprised 2,349 U.S. residents, highlights several key findings:

  • Demographic Insights: Women (27%), millennials (28%), and Gen Z individuals (32%) are more inclined to consider moving abroad compared to men (23%) and other age groups.
  • Preferred Destinations: Canada and the United Kingdom emerge as the top choices for those contemplating relocation.
  • Motivations for Relocation: The primary concerns driving this consideration include fears about the stability of democracy (82%), rising living costs (65%), and reduced access to healthcare (63%).
  • Financial Constraints: Among those who wish to move but are unlikely to do so, 61% cite financial limitations as the main barrier, while 32% feel a personal or emotional attachment to their current location that would prevent them from relocating overseas.

This survey underscores a significant portion of the American population considering emigration due to political and socio-economic factors. The inclination is notably higher among younger demographics and women, reflecting specific societal concerns. The preference for countries like Canada and the UK indicates a desire for stable democracies with robust social systems.
