A March article published by France24 highlights how Mexico is quickly becoming a safe haven for U.S. citizens planning to relocate. Indeed, an influx of Americans moving to the Land of the Aztecs has been recorded as a reaction to President Donald Trump’s anti-woke and anti-migrant policies, which many say have made life unbearable. According to a 2023 report from the Association of Americans Resident Overseas, 15% of U.S. expats have landed in Mexico for multiple reasons, from the open-minded approach to the queer community to tax advantages.
Among positive testimonials are:
- Oscar Gomez (55), a business consultant, who expressed struggles to decide whether to leave the U.S. Trump’s election was the final straw, as he strongly disagrees with his anti-immigration policies which symbolises a threat to America’s cultural diversity.
- Tiffany Nicole (45), a tax consultant, who left Chicago after the George Floyd phenomenon and expressed anxiety about her safety as a Black woman in the country.
- Lee Jimenez (38), a latino yoga instructor, left New York after multiple aggressions, making him accuse Trump of unfairly cancelling policies for the queer community.
- Jessica James (40), born in San Diego, expresses no regret about leaving her country. Indeed, she believes Trump’s leadership will bring countless tensions.
